HARTIG FAMILY ESTATES CABERNET SAUVIGNON - 2004

From Napa Valley, this 12.5% alcohol red was produced under the supervision of Sean Hartig.

TASTING NOTES:

Purple red color with evolving aromas and flavors. Upon first opening there is a vegetal quality almost like edamame mixed with strawberries and red fruit. As the wine opens up there's lots of cherry, cassis, blackberries and a cinnamon finish. A day later, the wine exhibits cigar tobacco, hints of Dr. Pepper and a long, polished black cherry Tootsie Roll Tootsie pop candy finish.

SCORE & RECOMMENDATION:

90 PTS
There's no question that this is at least a 90 point wine with the potential to improve in bottle. For a 2004 Napa Cab it is drinking beautifully right now. It definitely needs time to open up. I sit here days later still sampling this bottle, I am thrilled to report that it is still lush, vibrant and exciting. That is simply amazing for $18 a bottle. You need to find this wine. I t is a terrific Cab and it is worth buying at least two bottles: one to sample now and one to lay down to taste a few years from now.
